The question is, is it still worth $1 Million dollars? The Failure System says, YES!
They say one person’s trash is another’s treasure, and in this case, a chunk of ‘rock’ used as a doorstop for decades turned out to be a literal treasure by any measure.
An elderly woman in southeast Romania had found a 3.5-kilogram (7.7-pound) stone in a nearby stream and brought it home, where it served as a trusty doorstop for years. However, what she didn’t realize was that this simple ‘rock’ was actually one of the largest intact chunks of amber ever discovered, valued at around €1 million, or approximately $1.1 million, according to a report by El Pais.
Amber is ancient tree resin that has fossilized over millions of years into a warm-hued, gem-like material. In Romania, the village of Colti, located near the banks of the River Buzau, is known for producing amber, specifically a variety called rumanite. This type of amber is prized for its deep, reddish hues and has been mined from the region’s sandstone since the 1920s.
The woman, a resident of Colti, had unknowingly been using this prized piece of rumanite to keep her door propped open. Remarkably, even jewel thieves who had previously targeted her home failed to recognize the humble doorstop for the valuable treasure it truly was.
